A concert of seasonal music in acknowledgement of the Dylan Thomas centenary, by TEMPUS VOCAL GROUP
TEMPUS are delighted to return to Rhosygilwen for a Christmas-themed concert to open the festive season. Building on their success in the S4C Cor Cymru competition (they have twice reached the semi-finals where they won the hearts of both audience and judges with their energy and verve), TEMPUS continue to expand their repertoire from Bach to beatboxing, and everything in between. You can therefore expect a varied programme of seasonal music of many genres across many centuries, with something for everyone, both accompanied and a cappella; including classical treatments of traditional texts, recent versions of well-known carols and, of course, TEMPUS’s signature Gospel arrangements, all performed in TEMPUS’s inimitable and uplifting style.
Central to the programme is the lively cantata based on Dylan Thomas’s much-loved poem, A Child’s Christmas in Wales, by the American composer Matthew Harris, who travelled to Laugharne to attend TEMPUS’s Welsh premiere of the work in 2004. It is now an established favourite and, following their sell-out performance at Picton Castle last year, accompanied by The Jocelyn Trio and guest-conducted by James Bartlett (who will also be conducting the first performance of his setting from that other Dylan favourite, Under Milk Wood, of the Rev. Eli Jenkins Prayer, composed especially for TEMPUS), Rhosygilwen are pleased to bring this excellent programme to the wider audience it deserves.
